President’s Message

Samuel T RhoadesThe “HBCU Foundation, Inc. “, a 501 © (3) organization formed in August 2012, predicated raison d’être to provide:  (1) scholarships to students attending HBCU’s, (2) necessary resources needed to assist with the professional growth and development of faculty and staff, and (3) procure resources for research opportunities to assist in the undergirding of institutional infrastructures.

Over the last 30 years, we have seen the doors close to 31 HBCUs (now down to 104) due to fiscal and resultant administrative and academic issues. In the event this downward spiral persists, our HBCU institutions will become nonexistent. We CANNOT allow this to happen! It is therefore imperative that we expeditiously move forward to take action in this effort to eradicate this clear and present danger.

Moreover, as a product of an HBCU, it is without any mental reservation that these institutions continue the legacy of academic excellence and leadership development for future generations. Our nation’s HBCUs have opened the door to teaching/learning when other doors were barred. And today they continue to offer a number of opportunities for young persons to contribute to their country and their communities.

Lastly, HBCU Forever Management Team is optimistic and enthusiastic about working with you in meeting the challenge of enabling every student, who wishes to attend an HBCU, to further their education and reach his or her potential despite of any and all obstacles, i.e. federal sequestration cuts, stringent rule changes in Parent Plus Loans, and the upcoming Congressional Hearing relative to the Reauthorization of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended coupled with a divided United States House of Representatives. Therefore, making the compelling case for proactive efforts to preserve and support the viability and survival of higher education institutions to help maintain their existence and fulfill their mission.

Sincerely,

Samuel T. Rhoades
President& CEO
